Merrill F. Unger

Merrill F. Unger (1909-1980) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University. After obtaining Th.M. and Th.D. degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary, Unger earned a Ph.D. in Semitics and Biblical Archaeology from the Oriental Seminary of the School of Higher Studies at Johns Hopkins. He served in pastoral ministry prior to beginning his teaching career at Gordon Divinity School and later taught at Dallas Theological Seminary until his retirement in 1967. He is perhaps best known for his classic study and reference volume, Unger's Bible Handbook.
